Michelle in her own words…
I knew from the age of eight, I wanted to be an entrepreneur. You could say this stems from My Grand Parents, Greek Cypriots who came to the UK with hard-earned savings with a dream to be successful and provide for their family. They ran a successful property & hospitality business with a restaurant in Southampton Way, SE London where I would spend most of my childhood. I would watch the daily routine of the busy restaurant, with the regular customers, who would come in to receive, my family’s warm hospitality. I always watched with amazement and wanted to help! But I was always told, I was too young. So as soon as I could, at 14, I proudly started my working life – my first job being a shoe sales assistant at Freeman, Hardy, and Willis in Woolwich. Although the pay by today’s standards would be poor, it was my money, and earning it felt good. I dabbled in lots of other ways to make money.
Not many people know I have ADHD and the result of that I am Dyslexic.
My health throughout my life could have been better, at the age of 19 I lost my Appendix, and at 35 I had a full Hysterectomy due to abnormal cells in the cervix and Endometriosis. At 40 I lost my Gallbladder and at 47 I end up in the ICU due to my pancreas failing and Covid-19.
I love my job and I will help anyone, not every on likes me, but that's ok!
About Michelle and her business
My accounting journey started at the age of 16, working for companies such as Duchy of Cornwall, Knight Frank, and Berry Bros. At age 21 my entrepreneurial journey started; I opened my own Bookkeeping & Training Company. The business evolved and I started venturing into other sectors: Dating. Confectionery, Consultancy, Business Development, Property, hospitality, and Investment. In 2011 I started my own Accountancy practice, which from 2018 under the current name Future Insight Consultancy Ltd. In 2021 I expanded and opened a branch in Malta. Between 2013 and 17 I lived and worked in Malta. I set up a training school there “Bookkeepers Malta”, teaching Bookkeeping Qualifications, Our first qualified bookkeeper Francisca Herh succeeded up to Level 4 of the ICB qualification. Our training school was recognised by the EFOB (Austria) – (European Federation of Bookkeepers). For our success in the training of bookkeepers, we were nominated for an award at the Constantinus Award 2018, in the Accounting & Payroll Selection. We came, second runner-up.
I am humbled as well as proud that I was kindly nominated by a number of my clients for the Top 50 Women in Accounting award this year. I won a place in the ‘top 50 groups’. I hope this will inspire other women to be courageous and follow their dreams
My mission is to empower women and inspire them to achieve their dreams and professional goals.
I am positive that constant development, learning, and hard work are at the core of my success. I see my journey as a discovery and reflect on where I could improve myself as much as on my surroundings. My favorite quote is by Rumi: "Yesterday I was clever, so wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” I believe it is useful, and indeed imperative, to self-reflect if you want to be successful in any part of life.
We won’t succeed if we are not willing to face challenges, learn from them and persevere. I have benefited from my falls and mistakes just as much, if not more, as from my successes. If I were to say one thing to inspire other people running their own businesses it would be: “Try, fall, l and try again - your willingness, resilience, and perseverance will ultimately get you to your destination. Life isn’t a smooth ride, there are bumps and hurdles, but they offer solutions along with them if you are willing to see them.
